Stage 13 of the Lynbrook Residential Estate was awarded a President's Award at the Victorian Urban Development Institute of Australia's 2000 Excellence Award luncheon on Friday 8 December 2000.
In making the award, the judges noted the following:- "It's unlike anything else in Victoria. Road swales, nature strip drains and controlled overland flows take urban run off to a central water feature. All these features are specifically designed to better utilise water for positive purposes and all of it is underfoot or underground.
In recognition of the innovations the judges applaud the pacesetting initiatives of the Urban Land Corporation with Melbourne Water. The judges recognise that the way of the future is on show at Lynbrook...
The Urban Land Corporation's Lynbrook Estate is the recipient of a President's Award in 2000 but is the pioneer of the future."
The CRC for Catchment Hydrology has an intimate involvement, through the Urban Stormwater Quality program, in conceptualising the Water Sensitive Urban Design features in this estate, defining their function specifications and on-going advise during the design of these features.
A significant component of Sara Lloyd's PhD project is based on the development at the Lynbrook Estate and a series of experiments aimed at the performance evaluation of the system is scheduled for this summer.
