Second Revision for 2001 - Continuous Simulation for Design Flood Estimation Software

July 17, 2001

Dr Walter Boughton developed the Continuous Simulation for Design Flood Estimation software as part of a research project with the CRC. Recently the software has been updated again. You can download it free from our website.

Continuous Simulation for Design Flood Estimation Software Update
Dr Walter Boughton developed the Continuous Simulation for Design Flood Estimation software as part of a research project with the CRC. The software system consists of a suite of computer programs for:
á Calibrating models
á Generating 2000 year sequences of daily rainfalls
á Disaggregating the larger daily rainfalls into hourly values
á Calculating losses and rainfall excess values
á Calculating hourly hydrographs of runoff
á Selecting the design flood hydrographs for average recurrence intervals (ARIs) of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 years. Annual maxima series of flood hydrographs or a partial flood series can also be produced if required.

Earlier in 2001 Dr Walter Boughton ran two successful workshops in Brisbane using updated versions of his Continuous Simulation for Design Flood Estimation software. Now another updated version (Revision 3) has been released - see below for details.
The recently updated version is now on the CRC website at: http://www.catchment.crc.org.au/models

It is available for those wishing to further study and/or evaluate the methodology. Feedback to the CRC on experiences with the software is appreciated.

A list of revisions by the author, Dr Walter Boughton to the software since its release (the most recent update is Revision 3):

REVISION 1 - February 2000

1. Programs 15DAYMX and 15HYGEN added to system. These facilitate the making of multiple runs where the variation in results is such that single runs are inadequate.

2. Program MAKEEDIT modified by adding edit item no.57 for resetting all parameter values in the WBMOD flood hydrograph model.

3. Program FLCHECK modified by adding the comparison between hourly and daily data files.

REVISION 2 - January 2001

1. Menu system replaced 2-letter codes for starting programs.

2. Programs 15DAYMX and 15HYGEN replaced single-run programs as the standard programs.

3. Flow duration program added.

4. Provision made for compatibility with standard AWBM programs - to read from AWBM parameter files and write to AWBM parameter files.

REVISION 3 - July 2001

1. AWBM2000 and AWBMGEN added for water yield studies

2. Corrections made to Pascal code to avoid division by zero hold-ups in programs FLDYRNGN, 15DAYMX, FLHYDROG, 15HYGEN, FLSHOW and 15REPEAT - can occur with very seasonal rainfall and months without much rain.

3. FLCALIBR revised to avoid parameter values being adjusted out of allowable range.
