CRC for Catchment Hydrology appoints Professor Rodger Grayson as Director
July 02, 2004
Professor Rodger Grayson has been appointed as the Director of the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Catchment Hydrology replacing Dr Rob Vertessy, now Chief of CSIROs Land and Water Division.
Rodger has seventeen years experience in research, consulting and teaching related to environmental hydrology, the modelling and monitoring of water quality and quantity, and integrated catchment management. He has been involved in the CRC for Catchment Hydrology since its commencement in 1992. Rodger is an agricultural engineer, with PhD studies in hydrological and water quality modelling, undertaken as part of a very early collaboration between CSIRO, universities and industry funders during the 1980s. Since then Rodger has pursued modelling and fieldwork interests through many projects and supervision of PhD students.
Outside the CRC, Rodgers interests have been wide ranging, from working with community groups and management agencies on integrating R&D to assist with catchment management and target setting, to more fundamental field and analytical research on spatial variability and patterns in hydrology, both in Australia and overseas.
Rodger is the co-author of over 120 refereed publications including two books (most notably Spatial Patterns in Hydrology) and many book chapters. He has delivered several keynote addresses at international conferences, and served on the Editorial Boards of the international journals; Water Resources Research, the Journal of Hydrology, and Advances in Water Resources.
Rodger brings a wealth of knowledge and research management skills to the CRC complemented by practical experience through his role as Board member for the East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority in Victoria.
Professor Grayson will be based at Monash University:
